Come, Hear, and Act Accordingly

Many people call Jesus Christ “Lord”, but fail to do what He asks of us.

46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like.

Luke 6:46-47 (NIV)

Foundation

So the problem is: Calling Him “Lord, Lord”, yet not doing what He says. The Lord clearly states in three steps, what it is all about: coming to Jesus, listening to His words, and acting accordingly. Then, we may call Him Lord.

48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

Luke 6:48-49 (NIV)

Whoever comes, hears, and acts accordingly, shall build his house on a rock. Jesus is that rock. When life gets rough, you will be glad it was built properly.

Obedience

Whoever hears, but does not do what Jesus says (who is not obedient) can have a nice house, as well. But one day, it will become apparent that it has no foundation. As soon as something terrible happens, the house will collapse.
Come to Jesus Christ, read His Word, and act accordingly. Being obedient to Him means laying a foundation for our lives, on which we can stand when the storms hit.
