What do you consider yourself? Are you a sinner or a saint? Or maybe somewhere in between? According to the Bible, there are only two possibilities. Where are you at?
Colossians 1:13-14 (NIV)
In a way, Christians have moved to a different place. We no longer live in the power of the darkness (under the power of Satan) but we live in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ! We have been taken there since the day we have asked Jesus to forgive our sins and asked Him to become our Lord. Are we a sinner or a saint?
Ephesians 5:7-8 (NIV)
We weren’t just living in the dark, we were the dark. This speaks of our own responsibility. We are named people of the light (see Matthew 5:14a) For in Him we live and have our being. That too is our own responsibility. We are to walk in the light and to have our being, our life in Jesus Christ. Everything through Him. Everything for Him.
What is a sinner and what is a saint?
A sinner is someone who is a slave to sin. Someone who needs to sin (see Romans 3:23). To sin means to do something that upsets God. Sin causes you to miss the purpose that God has for you.
A saint is someone who has been freed of sin. He is capable of sinning, but it is not necessary. He is able to say no. He is no longer a slave to sin, but he has a new Master; Jesus Christ. A saint is a person who is born again. He no longer lives an earthly life, but a spiritual life, a life in which he is led and helped by the Holy Spirit. A saint is also someone who has been set apart by God. God only does that when people have been sanctified by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ!
