Religions all around the world tell us that we must perform good works even Christianity teaches us that. Are those good works able to save us, reconcile us to God, wash away our sins? Or are those good works only meaningful when serving God, and is there another way to be saved?
According to Paul, salvation is only possible by believing. We are saved by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8). But, how do we receive that faith?
Romans 10:13-15 (NIV)
It can also be put like this:
Someone speaks the Word of God => someone hears it => he starts to believe => he calls upon the Lord, and is saved.
People are saved by calling on the name of the Lord. In other words: asking God for it. Faith is a necessity in this equation. Someone who wants to believe in God will need to hear the Word of God first. This only happens when somebody else tells him about it. Therefore, God’s Word is the foundation of our faith, and, consequently, of our salvation. We will be forgiven and receive eternal life when we, by faith in Jesus Christ, ask God to forgive us and to grant us eternal life. God will give it to us then. Not because we deserve it, but only because of His grace. Have you heard the Word already? Do you believe in Jesus Christ as the Way to our Heavenly Father? Have you asked God to forgive you?
If you answered the questions above with ‘yes’, it is important for you to pass this on to others. Paul rightly states: How are people to start believing, when nobody tells them the Good News? We have received the Bible, God’s Word, which contains the words we can share with others. Several parts in de Bible say: ‘Welcome to those who bring good news’. This good news is about God giving us hope and a future. We may tell this to everybody. Will you join us?
