Yesterday’s study showed that Ezra enjoyed the protection of God, because he handled His Word with care. He studied it, applied it and taught others. Jesus Christ says exactly the same, with a slightly different emphasis.
Matthew 5:17-19 (NIV)
Anyone who thinks that the Old Testament is no longer important is wrong. In these verses, Jesus says that no comma of the Bible will be abolished. Every verse in the Bible is inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16), and the Lord Jesus tells us that all these verses remain in effect, until all is accomplished.
In our lives we can abolish some verses that, in our opinion, speak to us too directly. We give them a different meaning, or we put them back on the shelf, if only we won’t have to listen. We forget that these verses are there for our own good; for our spiritual health. Anyone who reads the Word of God and lives by it will grow spiritually and will find healing.
Whoever does not put aside the Word of God, but maintains it and passes it on to others will be highly regarded in the kingdom of Heaven. The Bible speaks about Samuel and Jesus Christ being highly regarded when they were young (see 1 Samuel 2:23, Luke 2:52). This was also said about the first disciples of Jesus (Acts 2:47). Now we know that this is possible for us, today, as well.
Let's take each verse from God's Word seriously and spread a sweet fragrance in our environment by applying and passing on His Word.
